Sony gained one million PS Plus subscribers from January through to the end of March 2023 to see its members count increase again to a total of 47.4 million. Having experienced a small dip earlier in the year, the growth sees the number of paying accounts return to what appears to be the service's general peak: just under 50 million subscribers. It's never gone above 48 million members, recorded in Q3 of fiscal year 2021.
Interestingly, this actually ties in with a loss of four million monthly active users across the same time period, down to 108 million. Sony will likely look on the bright side, though: fewer members but more of them are paying for a subscription to PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, or PS Plus Premium. The two more expensive tiers have been on a roll as of later with long monthly lists of quality PS5, PS4 game additions, which may have influenced the increase in users.

I don't think Premium is on a role if anything it's in need a revamp.
Not single PS2 game has been added since launch. Its nearly a year later. Looks like their is an issue emulating PS2 games and the games are sparse in terms of classics added. Did we even get any classic games emulated this month? Adding PS4 games feels like cop out for me. Considering the library of PS1, 2, 3 and PSP games we could play and sometimes these remasteres end up in Extra instead of Premium.
Extra is a brilliant tier for the price and games you get it's unmatched.
Subscriptions we're always going drop post lockdown covid and low PS5 stock. Now stock is up subs have increased!
Not surprised at all, PS Plus Extra is just a great deal currently.
as an avid multiplayer person, ever since i got a PC, i don’t see myself subscribing to PS Plus anytime soon & haven’t been subbed to it in about 5 months, which is the longest i’ve ever been without an online subscription
but hey , PC master race baby , it is what it is .
I have Extra, and have had Plus for years, but I’ll likely drop it unless they start adding VR games. That’s where the majority of my time will be from now on so, as great value as it is, I just don’t have the time for what they have been giving me and don’t see that changing.
Extra is really fantastic!
If I could play online for free like it use to be I would drop the sub in a heartbeat.
It’s very interesting that Sonys music division actually makes slightly more profits for them that their gaming division, and their chip division not too far behind.
263 billion yen, 250 billion, and 212 billion yen respectively.
I find it interesting, that number of PS Plus subscribers increased from last quarter, but actual revenue from PS Plus decreased.
Meaning that people are probably trying PS Plus Extra/Premium, but they are not keeping their sub of higher tiers of PS Plus active.
Honestly, I prefer PS+ to Gamepass at the moment. It’s a more solid curation of games right now. Redfall vs Humanity in May is going to be an interesting one for me!
Although I play a lot fewer games than I used to, I think PS+ Essential and Extra are still great values. I’m currently an Extra subscriber, and I stack on my sub during sales, along with using some top off cards to add a few extra dollars of discount. So I think I paid a little less than $70 for a year. Which ironically is the cost of one new game.
So I roughly “break even” if I just play one or two games from the service in a year. And that’s not mentioning cloud saves, online gaming access, and PSN sales.
My only complaint is that the Extra library rotation is slightly haphazard. It would be nice if they just pulled games off once a month and if they were sure to give us 2-3 months notice before a game leaves the service. It seems like they are announcing game departures on average a month ahead, but it’s sometimes less, and there’s random one-off announcements mid-month about a game leaving.
Extra has been really good for some time. There is so many games I have played and want to play on there, just don't have the time at the moment to play them all. Premium on the other hand, although there are some good titles on there, I still feel they need to improve the emulation for the older games to make it a worthwhile service.
The sub cap people. Under 50m.
thats probably because they were offering essential 1 month for £1
As someone who pays for premium, I have to say, Extra is the best tier you can sub to. I like having ps1 and psp games but the quality and quantity of those games being added to premium is not enough to justify its bump in price over extra.
but as it stands, if you just got a playstation console for the first time, this service is a steal, so many games avaliable, if you pay for a year's subscripion on the extra tier you will never run out of games to play.
I dropped the add on tiers after the first Year and just kept PS Plus.Just could not find the time to play the limited time games.
@nomither6
you forgot the bator
I've been subbed to Game Pass Ultimate again, but I really don't do much with it. Mainly just play short games (primarily Vampire Survivors) in order to collect achievements for Microsoft Rewards points. I can imagine I'd have even less incentive to play games via this service.
Fundamentally, I like buying games I want close to launch and playing them. The subscription model just doesn't work out for me.
I like extra, there is a solid game library and the odd day one indie
(Stray, tchia, meet your maker on regular plus) makes a big difference. I keep meaning to get to gravity rush 2 and have had it downloaded for a while but have just not got to it yet.
I think my subscription finishes this month or already has done, I won't be resubscribing any time soon as I don't play online and haven't played anything on Plus for a long time
I did drop to extra from premium this year due to the fact I'm 40 years old I played all those older Gen games throu the decades when they was in their prime. It's just hard playing those older games when the graphics look so out dated.Music/movies/art age well video games do not when it comes to visuals. Extra is the deal for me I did try premium for a year thou to give it a shot and all I wanted to play was ps4 and ps5 games.
For Premium I'd like to see the Ridge Racer lot, Nightmare Creatures & Deathtrap Dungeon, as it's something that not many people would expect game wise
@grapetrap oh i didn’t forget
@nomither6
lol. Thanks for taking the jibe as nothing personal. I would be the first to call myself a PS Fanboi.
My membership just expired and I won’t be renewing until there’s a sale.
I'm good with extra
Premium has turned out to be a big waste of money for me personally sadly.
I'll be dropping down to Extra or Essential soon as my subscription expires in April 2027.
